NEW COVER REVEAL: My Highlander Cover Model by @KarynGerrard #Fantasy #TimeTravel #Highlander

MY HIGHLANDER COVER MODEL
Heroes of Time Travel Anthology Series #1
re-release: July 16, 2016
Approx 32,000 words

Skye Bancroft, assistant art director at a small New York publisher, is used to dealing with the occasional spoiled and egocentric model. After all, it’s part of her job description. But during a photoshoot, she didn’t count on one to become so delusional as to think himself a Highlander from 1814 Scotland.

Cailin Thorburn is every woman’s dream: A warrior who is fierce, passionate, and protective. Rendered unconscious during battle, he awakens in another place, time, and in another man’s body. Could this be magic? Convincing the bonnie lass, Skye, that he is Cailin is a daunting task.

Regardless of his strange time travel story and sexy Scottish burr, believing this extraordinary man is from another era becomes hard to deny. The attraction between them sizzles and Skye is left to wonder: Is Cailin truly as he claims?

Note: this title is a re-release that has been revised, re-edited and more than 8000 words added

“You dinna believe me, do ye, Skye?”
Her gaze softened as if indulging a simple child. Pity he did not need or want. His temper boiled hot and furious as he tried to rein his frustrations. No bluidy luck. With a sweep of his arm he sent the platter of food crashing to the floor. The plate smashed to bits. He stood and pounded the table with such force, his glass tipped over. The fizzy drink—soda, she had called it—dripped into a large pool on the floor.
“I am Cailin Thorburn! I dinna understand how I came to be here or what my connection is to the lad or where he is. Do you think I want to be here?” He strode toward her. Grabbing her shoulders, he brought her to her feet. “Look into my eyes, lass. Do you see this Roderick you hold in such disdain? Amhairc fhéin cridhe. See my heart.” He snatched her wee hand and laid it on his chest and held it there. “Feel my heart, mo eudail.”
Her lower lip trembled. It was not his intent to scare the sweet lass. “What are you saying?” she gasped. “You spoke that language earlier—”
“’Tis the Gaelic, my mother tongue. I said before you are beautiful.” He cupped her cheek. “I called you my darlin’. Look into my eyes. Do ye see Roderick?”

* * *

How could she think straight when he gave her such an intense look? His eyes burned with passionate green fire. He spoke Gaelic or what he claimed was Gaelic. Whatever, it was enough to squeeze her heart and curl her toes. He thought her beautiful? No man had ever said it to her before. Calling her “my darling” caused a few hot tears to cluster in the corner of her eyes. Her emotions were all over the map. So were her confused thoughts.
Blinking back the gathering moisture, she did as he asked and looked deeply into his eyes. No, she didn’t see Roderick. She’d never claimed to know Roderick all that well anyway. But what did it prove? When Skye stood close to him like this, she could easily believe anything he told her. Anything at all.
This house proved the opposite of what she’d thought Roderick was—an arrogant ass. Instead, she observed a cozy and tastefully decorated home with many pictures of family about and numerous books showing a mind that yearned to learn new things. The house was clean, his clothes neat and organized. Snooping in the kitchen, she found the herbs and spices lined up alphabetically in the cupboard. Coupled with his moments of sweetness like the one discussing the brooch, she became more and more convinced she may have misjudged Roderick. And she had been far too quick to judge.
All a man had to do was speak a little Gaelic to convince her he came from another time and another body? However, the sword had come to life and it had definitely vibrated. Hell, it had hummed. She hadn’t imagined it. When he’d regained consciousness, he was no longer Roderick. A stark reality.
“Do you want me to be truthful? I honestly don’t know what’s going on. I need more time to process this. No, I don’t see Roderick, but I’ve only had a few dealings with him. We weren’t close. When we gripped the sword, it vibrated and made a weird sound. Then it slipped from our hands and hit Roderick in the forehead.” Her fingers brushed by the small goose egg and Cailin moaned softly from her touch. “When he woke he was different. He was—you. I can’t completely dismiss it, but I can’t accept it all, either. As I said—I need time.”

With a sigh, he clasped her hand and kissed it. “Skye, I have a feeling time is the one thing I dinna have. Mayhap the sword is enchanted. But I feel in here,” his fist lowered to his solar plexus, “my time here is limited. This is no’ my body, no’ my life. I canna stay.”

What I'm Working On: Hybrid Author Stuff and Rebranding by @KarynGerrard #SelfPublishing #Changes

One of my first jobs in the mid-eighties was as a Clerical Teacher-Aide at the school Mr. Gerrard taught at. I used an IBM Selectric II. God, I loved it. Even wanted to buy it from the school when we moved. I had interchangeable balls, *snort* I loved the sound of the keys clicking. Barely had to touch it and away it went, typing like a dream. I'd kill for a computer keyboard that worked the same way.

Besides aging myself, why am I tripping down memory lane? Because it's time, after 7 years published, to take stock. Assess goals. Since I spent all of last year writing to fulfill contracts, my indie/self-pubbed stuff suffered. I didn't promote them, never released anything except one re-issue. So I am stepping up my game on the other side of my hybrid writing.

I have uploaded new versions of The Spinster and Mr. Glover, The Governess and the Beast, and Timeless Heart. I have ordered a new cover for My Highlander Cover Model and giving that a new revision. I put both my time travels together as a series called: Heroes of Time Travel Anthology. Made the changes already at the vendors.

I've come to believe that since I have complete control of my indie books, I should keep them updated, not only concerning the front and back matter, but looking for any possible problems. My writing is constantly evolving, my voice should be consistent throughout. Hence the updates. I will be doing my contemporary Xmas story as well.

Also working on a short contemporary romance novella called My Wicked Soul. Here's a tip, never order a cover until you are absolutely sure what you are doing with a story or series. I bought this close to two years ago, thinking I would add it to a contemporary series I already had. Nope. Luckily, I have some photoshop skills and I was able to remove the series name under the title. Instead, I will be using this for a different standalone story. Also working on this. I am using parts from a story that has been returned to me.

So, what about the other side of my hybrid author stuff? You know, *Trad*.

I have no idea.

I have a couple of historicals to re-release and will do so at some point through my own publishing arm.

What about the Hornsby Brothers Series? (historical) Book 1 and 2 are with Kensington Publishing, and I am 2/3's of the way writing book 3. (I am able to release it myself) The cover for book 3 is bought, and the series is on hold for a while. But I will be finishing it, I promise. By the end of the year if all goes well.

We will see what happens. Meanwhile, in this downtime, I'm taking charge and cleaning up my backlist. I have one more book to ask for the rights back from Evernight Publishing, and pretty much all my earlier books (2011-2014) will be back in my hands.

In 2014, I shuddered at the thought of self-publishing. Since then, I have found my happy place. For now, at this particular place in time, hybrid author suits me right down to the ground.

Timeless Heart was in Kindle Unlimited for over 9 months and it did well. But as far as my self-publishing efforts, I have decided I only want one book in Kindle Unlimited at a time. I have a re-release coming up I will put in KU soon.

Now available at the following vendors:

Excerpt:

Sandra, with eyes closed, soaked in the lush bubbles, her head resting on the bath pillow. She’d been tempted to go to Jerrod’s room and knock on the door and offer comfort and sympathy, but ultimately decided to leave him in peace. Could she have handled the conversation between them any better? Hardly. Jerrod had to be told what she found out, and she couldn’t blame his reaction either. The look of raw devastation on his handsome face cut straight through her heart. She hurt for him. Maybe she should check on him after her soak.
A deep sensuous voice filled the silence. “Move forward, Sandra.”
Gasping, her eyes snapped open.  “I thought you retired for the night?”
“I’ve had a change of heart.” He gave her a brief, but sensual smile. “I am not a man who wallows for long in a state of piteous self-indulgence. In fact, I am more of a man of action.”
Jerrod stood next to the tub gloriously naked. And aroused. What a delicious sight. Taking a moment to savor the view, she realized things between them were moving in a different direction tonight. The prospect of sex with this man amped her desire right off the charts. Good thing she owned an old-fashioned clawed foot tub that could easily accommodate them both. As she slid forward, Jarrod stepped in behind her and sank to his knees, gently pulling her against his hard chest. Slowly and with purpose, he stroked her skin.
“Allow me to wash you,” he whispered. His arousal pressed heavy and thick against her back. While massaging her scalp, he laid kisses along the exposed part of her neck setting her skin ablaze. With a flip of the cap of her bottle of bodywash, the odor of grapefruit filled the air. He moved his gel-covered hands in circular motions on her neck, then down to her shoulders. “Still not fond of the scent, but on you it is quite enticing,” he murmured. White, foamy suds oozed through his fingers while he lingered on her breasts. She reached for a washcloth and with a trembling hand, held it behind her.
“Maybe you would like to use this,” she whispered.
“I want no impediment between my hands and your glorious skin,” his husky voice rumbled.
Obviously, what in hell was she thinking? What did she know about bathtub seduction rules? Sandra threw the damp cloth across the room where it landed with a splat against the toilet tank. No impediment. Check.

Excerpt: Sandra winked then picked up the shave cream and dispensed some into her hands, mixed it between her palms, and spread a thin film over his face. In response, he spread his legs wide, allowing her to step in closer. Good God, he was hard as stone. All this talk of shaving, the touching, her nearness. Jerrod gazed up at her, his heart thumping madly in his chest.
Though she appeared somewhat nervous, he definitely could see desire swimming in her lovely eyes. How satisfying. Picking up the Fusion, Sandra flicked the button and a low hum filled the silence surrounding them. When her breasts slightly brushed by his cheek, he couldn’t stop the low growl from rumbling deep in his chest. Using one finger, he swiped away the bit of shave cream from her sweater, right on the nipple. Barely there contact, but enough to have the simmering flame between them roar to life.
He slid across the seat so his thighs touched her leg, reached behind her back, and eased her down until she sat on his leg. “Shave me,” he whispered hoarsely. Sandra held the razor to the base of his throat and began a slow ascent to his chin. She twisted, turning toward the sink, and ran the razor under warm water before turning back to him. Giving him a soft, sultry smile, she scraped him again.
Her free hand followed the ascent of the blade, gently caressing his shaved cheek. God, he was tempted to kiss her right then, instead he leaned back and let her tender strokes lull him into relaxation. Closing his eyes, he came to the realization he could become used to this very easily. Some minutes passed and Sandra continued with her task. In his time, he usually shaved himself since he was not keen to have a valet fussing around him. However, having her sitting in his lap perilously close to his throbbing erection, with her warm, sultry breath surrounding him, appealed to him greatly.
“Kiss me,” he commanded, keeping his voice low and quiet. Setting the razor on the counter, she patted his face dry with a cloth, then leaned in and laid her lips against his. A jolt of heat rolled through him. Tilting his head, Jerrod delved deeper, cupping her cheeks to hold her still while he tasted her. Sweet and hot, like a dish of honey warmed over the flame. He swiped his tongue along her plump lower lip and she opened in invitation. The kiss grew fierce, both of them hungrily exploring. Sandra met the thrusts of his tongue with insistent plunges of her own. Passionate. Intoxicating. Yes. This was a kiss worth traveling through time for.

Coming late spring/early summer from KG Publishing

This was the very first manuscript. It was accepted and offered a contract by a publisher (Evernight Publishing) in less than 24 hours after submitting. The story was released in Spring 2011. I was granted the rights back in Jan 2015 and have been working on it the last several weeks, editing, revising, and adding more than 6000 words so far.

Also, this will be my first self-pubbed effort that is a re-release. I will certainly make sure I mark it as such in the blurb. I hope to release it late spring/early summer. I am not rushing. Taking my time and doing a thorough spiff and shine on it. Since this was my first, and it sold well and became an Amazon bestseller, it holds a special place in my heart.

From a marketing point of view, I should set release dates, but I really can't with my personal life in flux due to hubby's health. I can only take things one day at a time and that also takes in my writing/editing/releases. Take it as it comes, its all I can do.

Isn't the cover glorious? Done by Cora Graphics. The model is Kieran from Period Images. He fits my hero Jerrod Ross to a tee. ~Cheers!

Karyn Gerrard Bio:

Karyn lives in a small town in the western corner of Ontario, Canada. She whiles away her spare time writing and reading romance while drinking copious amounts of Earl Grey tea. Tortured heroes are a must. A multi-published author with a few bestsellers under her belt, Karyn loves to write historicals, particularly in the Victorian era.  She also writes contemporaries.
As long as she can avoid being hit by a runaway moose in her wilderness paradise she assumes everything is golden.

Karyn’s been happily married for a long time to her own hero. His encouragement keeps her moving forward.
