The Ravenswood Chronicles Will No Longer be Available Soon #Historical #Paranormal @KarynGerrard @ERomNews

 

Published in 2016 and 2017, this Frankenstein Sci-Fi, paranormal, historical romance mash-up 2 book series sold few copies. A senior editor at Kensington Publishing/Lyrical Press really liked it, so I was offered more contracts. 

However, enough time has elapsed, and I have no plans to pursue further contracts with the publishing company, so why keep my books there? I already got back the rights to The Hornsby Brothers and republished them myself. So, I have formally asked for the rights back to these two books. Will I republish? Not at this time. It will be 60 days or so until they are taken down.

That leaves one series (three books) with Kensington: The Men of Wollstonecraft Hall. When convenient, I will also ask for those rights back. I will republish this series.

Regarding other writing, I signed contracts with another publisher (!) and am writing those books. Look for The Duke's Bastards (a three-book series) in 2025.

Honestly, I see a light at the end of the tunnel. I have been doing this since 2011 and have enjoyed the writing (not so much the other aspects of publishing). I can only see myself doing this a little while longer, or if I do it for a while yet, it will be sporadic and at my leisure. But who knows?

To recap from a previous post: What is wrong with the 2015 edition published with Kensington/Lyrical Press? Nothing, in theory, but there is an explanation.

BOLD SEDUCTION was my first book with Kensington's digital line. It was originally a standalone story. When Kensington contacted me to see what else I had, I was writing THE VICAR'S FROZEN HEART. So I pitched it as book two in a series. Sold! But by the time I got around to pitching the third and final book, too much time had gone by, so Kensington passed, (though they did offer me contracts for another series) 

The publisher said I could release book 3 myself. Cool. But because of real life and contract obligations I wasn't able to get around to finishing book 3 until recently. THE MARQUESS OF SECRETS released April 23rd. (see below for links)

I concluded it was best to have the complete series under my control. So, asked for the rights back and got it. At the time of this post this older version is still up at Barnes and Noble. Hopefully it will be down soon.

The new version will be revised, rewritten, and re-edited. Not sure when it will be back up, but soon. I work at my own pace. Also, when I am able, I will also be asking for book 2 to be returned so the complete series is in my control.

Okay, so what is going on? What is wrong with the 2015 edition published with Kensington/Lyrical Press?
Nothing, in theory, but there is an explanation.

But by the time I got around to pitching the third and final book, too much time had gone by, so Kensington passed, (though they did offer me contracts for another series) At the time, I didn't have an agent, what did I know about 'length of time' between books?

The publisher said I could release book 3 myself. Cool. But because of real life and contract obligations I wasn't able to get around to finishing book 3 until recently. THE MARQUESS OF SECRETS is releasing April 23rd.

So, I wanted to link all three books as a series on Amazon. Nope. Because there is two different publishers. (me and Kensington) Amazon said Kensington had to okay it. Kensington said Amazon had to okay it. I've seen other authors get series linked before (mix of publisher and indie) but I wasn't in the mood for a drawn-out argument.

Best to have the complete series under my control is the conclusion I came to. Besides, my writing has changed so much since 2014 when I wrote this. So I asked for the rights back. BOLD SEDUCTION will be disappearing from vendors in the next week or two. I've also asked for THE VICAR'S FROZEN HEART back as well. More to come on that.

The new cover is above, and I am working on revisions now. BOLD SEDUCTION will be back soon.

I have two other series with Kensington, they are staying put. I have no plans to ask for rights back anytime soon, if at all.

The future? As far as traditional publishing, I have no idea. Not even thinking about it, for I have enough on my plate on the indie side of my writing.
