NEW SERIES COMING IN 2025! The Duke's Bastards by Karyn Gerrard #HistoricalRomance #DragonbladePublishing

I have been happily self-publishing for nearly five years, writing at my own pace. I hate deadlines. So, when I was approached by the owner of Dragonblade Publishing, a boutique publisher (and I am sure many other historical romance authors were as well, judging by the announcements), I asked many questions and gave it a lot of thought. My last foray into traditional (trad) publishing was somewhat disappointing. Some (not all!) of my experiences with digital publishers weren't all that great, either.

I am in my early sixties now, and I'm wondering how much longer I'll be doing this writing thing. So why not have one last kick at the can? My teacher husband is retired, and I like writing at my leisure. Regardless, I signed on the dotted line. Having contracts and deadlines again makes me 😬, but I'll give it a go. I just turned in book 1 and am already well into book 2.

Here is the announcement at Publisher's Marketplace.

The Duke's Bastards is a spinoff of The Rakes of St. Regent's Park series. If you read Book 5, The Not So Perfect Duke, I springboard from that subplot about the late Duke's illegitimate children. The hero in Book 1 appeared in Books 5 and 6 of The Rakes. The hero of Book 3? He was the small boy who appeared in The Vicar's Frozen Heart. (The Hornsby Brothers #2)

Will I regret this decision? Time will tell. I hope to rework The Men of Wollstonecraft Hall series someday, but with these contracts, that is farther down the road.

So, when will these books be released?

Book 1: The Detective and the Baroness   January 3, 2025 *

Book 2:  The Chef and the Countess          April 4, 2025

Book 3: The Doctor and the Duchess         July 8, 2025

*release dates are subject to change

Off to write! Cheers!

The Marquess of Secrets
(Hornsby Brothers #3 and conclusion to the series)

A secret life
For years Harrison Hornsby, Marquess of Tennington, heir to the Duke of Gransford, has been a scandalous rake. Unbeknownst to all he’d been leading an entirely different and secret life as physician to the poor. Though his younger brothers held out for true love, as the heir, Harrison feels he doesn’t have that luxury. The time has come to marry an appropriate bride. One who in society’s eyes is worthy to become a duchess. But fate has other plans.

A damaged woman

Life for Lydia Chesterton has not been kind. Once a respected nurse at a London hospital, she is alone and homeless due to disastrous decisions with regard to love and trust. Living on the streets and deathly ill, Lydia finds temporary sanctuary with Harrison. Her rescuer is hard to resist especially when he proposes a trade of secrets. With her dangerous past threatening her future, and Harrison bound by duty, a lasting love appears to be out of reach…unless they toss aside all obstacles and risk their hearts.

Karyn Gerrard was born and raised in the Maritime Provinces of Eastern Canada, and thrilled to have just recently moved home! When she’s not cheering on the Red Sox or travelling in the summer with her teacher husband, she writes, reads romance, and drinks copious amounts of Earl Grey tea.

A multi-published author, she loves to write sensual historical and contemporaries. Tortured heroes are an absolute must.

As long as she can avoid being hit by a runaway moose in her wilderness paradise she assumes everything is golden. Karyn’s been happily married for a long time to her own hero. His encouragement and loving support keeps her moving forward.

COMING SOON! New Version of The Vicar's Frozen Heart by Karyn Gerrard @KarynGerrard #NewCover #Historical

By the time I proposed an idea for book three for The Hornsby Brothers series, Kensington Publishing passed on it, saying too much time had gone by from the release date of book 2. What do I know about such things? I decided then to get the series back in my hands so I could release the final book (The Marquess of Secrets). Asking for the rights back for book 2 is the last step. I got them!
So the Lyrical Press version of this story is no longer available. I am almost done revisions and will be re-releasing this under my own KG Publishing with a new cover (above)
My, how my writing has changed in five + years since I wrote this.

Anyway, glad the series is back in my hands. As for my other books at Kensington, I'm leaving them there for now, as I have no interest in revising them. I have so much else to work on. And at my own pace.

Here is the new blurb:

His heart needs to heal…

NEWS: No Longer a Full-Time Writer, and it's all Good by @KarynGerrard #AmWriting #NewDirection

Burn out, baby...

I was first published in 2011. Now nine years later I have come full circle and am back to writing being a hobby.
Why? A lot of things happened to form a perfect storm starting with my editor leaving. But it started before that, and the incredible stress that I placed on myself. Being with a traditional publisher was not all that I thought it would be, nor was having an agent. Because there is such a 'cone of silence' over publishing in general, far be it for me to rip off that scab. But its an experience-been there, done that-sort of thing, and I'm done. I found deadlines too stressful.

When I fell seriously ill last summer, that was the straw-camel's back thing, I had to take stock. Now that I'm feeling at 80% and recovering still, what to do? First, Mr.G and I moved out of our small, northern, semi-insulated Canadian town and we are back home living close to family and civilization. The move, finding a house, and settling in is taking a lot of my time. In short, my life has changed and writing is not a top priority.

I achieved more than I thought possible, but when it came down to it, I wasn't enjoying it. I don't want to wind up like Bugs, breaking the same rocks over and over, feeling like I'm in a prison. I am off that merry-go-round--and relieved.

So what I am going to do going forward?

I've asked for the rights back to The Vicar's Frozen Heart, that way The Hornsby Brothers series will be in my control. The other 5 books with Kensington are staying put.

I am revising/expanding The Spinster and Mr. Glover.

I have an idea for a new historical series, reworking a couple of historicals that were returned to me a few years back, bringing The Baron and the Mistress into that world, and having a couple of new stories as well.

I will be working on revising The Wicked Men of Rockland City contemporary series. Book 1 is He's The Wicked Bad. Book 2 is His Wicked Celtic Kiss. Book 3 is written and all I need is write book 4.

I have a rock star novella. My Wicked Soul, that I am working on as well. See HERE for blurbs and covers.

All this will be when I get to it. No deadlines, no stress. No publishers or anything that ties to traditional publishing: I want to enjoy writing again.

All writers have their own path. I've changed mine. Change is good. I'm happy with the decisions I've made and am moving forward.  :)

Cheers

COMING SOON! Revised Edition of Bold Seduction by Karyn Gerrard @KarynGerrard (Hornsby Brothers #1) #Historical #CoverReveal

Okay, so what is going on? What is wrong with the 2015 edition published with Kensington/Lyrical Press?
Nothing, in theory, but there is an explanation.

BOLD SEDUCTION was my first book with Kensington's digital line. It was originally a standalone story. When Kensington contacted me to see what else I had, I was writing THE VICAR'S FROZEN HEART. So I pitched it as book 2 in a series. Sold! But by the time I got around to pitching the third and final book, too much time had gone by, so Kensington passed, (though they did offer me contracts for another series)

The publisher said I could release book 3 myself. Cool. But because of real life and contract obligations I wasn't able to get around to finishing book 3 until recently. THE MARQUESS OF SECRETS released April 23rd.

So, I wanted to link all three books as a series on Amazon. Nope. Because there is two different publishers. (me and Kensington) Amazon said Kensington had to okay it. Kensington said Amazon had to okay it. I've seen other authors get series linked before (mix of publisher and indie) but I wasn't in the mood for a drawn-out argument.

Best to have the complete series under my control is the conclusion I came to. Besides, my writing has changed so much since 2014 when I wrote this. So I asked for the rights back. BOLD SEDUCTION is gone from vendors. I will also be asking for THE VICAR'S FROZEN HEART back as well as soon as contract conditions are fulfilled.

The new cover is above, and I am working on revisions now. BOLD SEDUCTION will be back soon. Early July or even sooner.

I have two other historical series with Kensington, they are staying put. I have no plans to ask for rights back anytime soon, if at all.

Moving forward!

BOLD SEDUCTION

An Intriguing Proposition

Passion. Seduction. Pleasure. These are the qualities of any courtesan worth her salt. As owner of The Starling Club, London’s most notorious house of ill-repute, Madame Philomena McGrattan has seen it all, heard it all, done it all. There is little that surprises her anymore, and even less that excites her. So when she is presented a chance at an irresistible seduction, she can’t help but rise to the challenge.

A Dangerous Game

Studiousness. Practicality. Discipline. Such are the attributes of a good scholar, and such are the principles Lord Spencer Hornsby has built his life around. Alone in the Welsh countryside, with only his wolfhounds for company, Spencer has thrown himself into his work. There is little time for the pleasures of society, not even to think of the joys of the fairer sex. But when an unexpected guest arrives at his isolated hunting lodge, Spencer cannot help but be baffled by the presence of this dangerously beautiful woman. And when he discovers the reason for her arrival, and the pleasures she promises, he cannot help but find himself irresistibly intrigued . . .
