NEW YEAR, CLEAN SLATE, & FACEBOOK RANT~

I had a great break. I more or less stayed away from the computer. No editing, writing or internet. More importantly? Hardly any Facebook. Maybe on 10 minutes total. As I suspected I really didn't miss it.

I have stated before publicly I really don't care for Facebook. I am really not into cutesy pics of kitties or quotes from the bible, or snarky, vague statements that people post on their wall that could mean just about anybody.  Or rude declarations like 'don't f**king add me to groups'. Just leave the group you were added to, you know? Don't rail and rant about it on your wall. Way to turn off any potential readers of your books. Me included.

Also the never ending complaints about people posting buy links on your wall after you friend them. Just delete them! Stop yanging and declaring you will chop off heads if anyone does it again, or brag you sent a nasty message to set the person straight. Who cares?

I admit it is poor taste to flog yourself on someone's wall especially after they were just friended, but some people can't help themselves, they are in perpetual promotion mode. Just go to that person's page, click 'subscribed' and uncheck the stuff that annoys you like video, photos, life events, games etc, then you won't see them anymore for that person. I do it, constantly.  I believe each person has to find a happy medium for networking and promotion that works for them.
Just please, stop complaining about people whose idea of promo doesn't fit yours.

Hmmm. I am just as bad as the people I am complaining about! :D  Facebook can be fun or it can be a cesspool, the key is to know when to walk away for awhile. I am glad I did, I obviously needed the break from it!

Rant over~

What else? I have lots to edit and submit over the next few months. I also started another paranormal, but I am backburnering that until I get the other two Black Lust sequels edited and submitted.

I am in a good place. I am writing what I want to write, not what I think will sell. I am not doing this for fame or money, though I will take any that may come my way! Who wouldn't?
I am at a stage in my life where all is calm, all is bright. I no longer have to work and can wile away my afternoons doing what I love. I have a man in my life that is my rock, my hero. I have my health and the love of my family. Bring on the new year~I'm ready.

HAPPY NEW YEAR and continued success to us all~ And the pic of the guy above? Just posted it because I wanted to!

Cheers!

  1. Ha, this makes me glad I never added any writers (who aren't also close friends) to my Facebook. Wow, it doesn't sound like fun. It's just personal friends and family for me on there, and it's nice to have one quiet place I don't have to worry about the writing and promo world. I completely agree, we have to draw our lines, or else drive ourselves crazy!

And whoa boy, yummy! I can always count on your blog for a good drool! :D

  2. Laura, I wish now when I joined in April that I only started an author page. Too late now. with over 1700 'friends' my news-feed is not very quiet.
However, I will just put up with it and have occasional rants to get me through it! ;D

Isn't he smexy? I second the drool! ~Cheers~

  3. I've heard good and bad things about facebook, as you said, you need to walk away once in a while.

  4. I'm glad you had a good vacation! It was well deserved. I'm also glad you're not writing what sells. You're making your own name for yourself. People are going to recognize your name and start looking out for your stories.

  5. thanks jaundyce, FB can be an effective tool for promo but the rest, yikes. It is a good thing to walk away once and awhile~

  6. Thanks Nina, I needed the break.

You know, for my Christmas story if I swapped out 'Karin' for 'Kevin' I would have sold three times the amount, but it isn't want I want to write at this time.
Maybe, its a slow process and you have to keep at it! Cheers and thanks!

  7. Glad you had a good break, Karyn. And I admire your output! How on earth do you manage to be so prolific?

I only use Facebook in my personal life, but I kind of treat it as this grievance born out of necessity as most of my friends seem to have forgotten how to check their email. If I publish anything... yeaaaah, I think I'll just go with the distant, non-reciprocal author page :D

I may or may not have just spent a good few minutes ogling the guy in the picture.

  8. thanks Renee, I think it is a good idea to take a break from it all. It certainly helped with me. I think I am prolific because I am home all day and have the luxury of time on my side for once.

Good idea for the author page, wish I did it.

Oh good, glad you had a bit of an ogle, ;D
